Working with clay since 1998
Since that first high-school pottery class, I was hooked. I continued my passion for clay at The Cleveland Institute of Art where I earned my BFA in Ceramics and minored in Photography.
** side note: encourage your kids to be creative with Play-Doh, you never know where they'll end up (thanks Mom and Dad).

Working with cameras since 2002
Ok, so not counting the high-school photography classes this time (which were incredibly influential), going back to some of my first "real" job experiences working in professional photo labs and processing film, I've been working with both analog and digital mediums for a hot minute. Being a professional photographer is an adventure and passion that has taken me all over the world and provided me with some pretty incredible stories for the book that I'll likely never publish. I'm still actively photographing both in and out of the studio right now, so check out my photo portfolio if you're curious.
about
I'm Liz Copan, owner and artist at Studio Copán.
Two things I really really love: clay and cameras.
Studio Copán first started out as a garage/basement pottery studio back in 2006 and took a hiatus as life changed and I spent more time traveling with my photography career. I still dreamt about getting my hands dirty again, lamenting the fact that I had no place to be a creative professional amidst a pandemic. After a long time dreaming about opening an art studio, I finally did it in 2022!
Welcome to my creative haven.
